How Differentiation Signal works

Differentiation Signal helps teachers prepare better context before using an external AI tool.

It is an early browser-based teacher planning workbench. It creates a de-identified Signal Brief and copyable prompts. It does not generate AI outputs itself.

1. Start with lesson context

Enter the year level, subject, topic, learning goal, current task, and required evidence of learning.

This anchors the prompt in what students are meant to learn, not just in a broad request for "differentiation."

2. Describe the learner-task mismatch

Describe the classroom planning problem in de-identified, observable language.

For example: which part of the task may create an access barrier, readiness gap, confidence issue, literacy demand, misconception, or extension need?

3. Review the Signal Brief

The workbench turns the teacher's entries into an editable Signal Brief.

The Signal Brief shows what stays constant, what can change, the requested output type, signal-quality cautions, and any privacy warnings. The teacher can edit it before copying any prompt.

4. Copy a prompt into an external AI tool

Differentiation Signal creates a structured prompt from the Signal Brief.

The teacher copies that prompt into an external AI tool. The workbench itself does not call an AI model, send prompt data to a server, or generate the AI response.

5. Review and revise

After the external AI tool responds, the teacher reviews the output.

If it needs improvement, the teacher can paste the output and feedback back into the workbench. Differentiation Signal then creates a revision prompt that can be copied into the external AI tool.

6. Export only when useful

Teachers may manually export a de-identified case record if useful for review or pilot evidence. The workbench should not automatically store raw lesson drafts, learner context, Signal Briefs, AI outputs, or feedback.
